Gov. Kim Reynolds on Monday announced the headliner for her second annual Harvest Festival fundraiser, which will be held this year Oct. 13 at the Iowa State Fairgrounds: White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders.
Sanders has served as Donald Trump’s press secretary since July 2017, during which time she has told a litany of glaring lies for the president.
That apparently isn’t a concern for Reynolds, who campaigned enthusiatically for Trump in 2016 and has remained close to him recently despite the many controversies surrounding his presidency.
“I am so excited to welcome Sarah Sanders to Iowa as a special guest for my 2nd Annual Harvest Festival,” Reynolds said in a statement. “Sarah has an amazing story as a driven, working mom who shares our strong work ethic and values. It’s a story I believe Iowans will enjoy hearing. My husband Kevin and I are looking forward to this family-oriented event celebrating the progress we are making across the state of Iowa.”
Reynolds’ pick for her first harvest festival last year wasn’t much better. Then, as the Des Moines Register pointed out, she invited “former Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens, a former Navy SEAL and a Republican who resigned in June amid controversy and allegations of misconduct.” (Specifically, rape.)
