This week, former Lt. Gov. Joy Corning told Bleeding Heartland she decided during the GOP primary debates that she couldn’t support Donald Trump for president because of his “know-it-all demeanor when he really doesn’t know what he’s talking about.”

A moderate Republican who told the liberal blog she had supported every GOP presidential nominee from Dwight D. Eishenhower to John McCain, Corning served two terms as lieutenant governor under Gov. Terry Branstad during his second and third terms beginning in 1991 and 1995. After voting for President Obama in 2012, Corning said, she supported Jeb Bush in the GOP primary for the 2016 election.

Branstad, like current Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds, remains a strong supporter of Trump.
